Fact families worksheets: questions from parents

    What is a fact family?

    A fact family is a group of facts that use the same three numbers. 3, 5 and 15 give 3 × 5 = 15, 5 × 3 = 15, 15 ÷ 3 = 5 and 15 ÷ 5 = 3.

    Why do fact families help?

They show that multiplication and division are inverses, so one learned fact gives four. Children who see this need to memorise far less.
